Gear:
Car Shuttle. Rope: 1 @ 200’, 2 @ 120′, 1 @ 60′, 70 of webbing, steel rappel rings. Mix of bolted and natural anchors at each drop but be prepared top build alternative natural anchors. Cold water canyon layers. Self rescue and group rescue gear with head lamps.
Expected Time Commitment:
Car to car for a small solid team 9 hours on high water days
Technical Obstacles:
Several long low angle multistage rappels into water. 1 two stage rappel through the water course staying on rappel through a short swim in a current. Lots of down climbing.
Non Technical Obstacles:
Route finding, tripping and falling. Cold water

Late spring, summer early fall.
Finding the Trail Head:
From Hwy 99 south of Fresno, Take the ramp onto CA-41 N 0.7 mi., Take exit 128A to merge onto CA-180 E toward Kings Canyon 1.1 mi.. Take exit 60A to merge onto CA-168 E toward Clovis/Huntington Lake 32.9 mi., Turn left at CA-168/Tollhouse Rd 17.8 mi. Turn left at CA-168/Tollhouse Rd., 28.8 mi. You will drive through the town of Shaver and up past Shaver Lake. You will cross over Tamarack Creek on a bridge. Just past this bridge you should find a place to park. This is the start of the hike.
To find the place for your second car that will be at the end of the hike: Follow Hwy 168 out of the town of Shaver, Just after you pass the last part of Shaver lake look for a sign for the town of Big Creek. Take the Slight left onto Huntington Lake Rd., 2.9 mi
Slight left to stay on Huntington Lake Rd. 1.7 mi., Slight right to stay on Huntington Lake Rd., 1.8 mi. You will cross over a bridge that is the base of Pittman canyon. Park anywhere off the road and drive on up to the top of the canyon.
The Approach:
From upper car park hike down into Tamarack Creek/ Pittman and follow it as it steepens up.
The Canyon Descent:
Multiple long exposed down climbs will lead to a number of (over 12) rappels ranging in height from 20′ to 200′ and swims following the water course until you reach the Road below.
